| About Me: | I am an adventurer by nature and a self-taught photographer. My passion for both has continued to grow throughout the years and has become a perfect marriage between the two. I don't do these things for financial benefit but simply because I love to do them. I find as much joy in someone who simply finds a similar satisfaction and interest in my photographs as those that purchase them. I hope you do as well, and I look forward to hearing from you! |

| My interests: | My primary love is nature and the outdoors, so hiking, camping, and being in the wild are by far my most favorite activities when I have free time. Photography became a natural extension of this, and you will rarely find me outdoors without my camera in hand to chronicle yet another passion - traveling. I have found that I have an insatiable desire new locations and places, so join me on my travels through my photographs! |
| My inspiration: | As a child, my first set of shoes were actually hiking boots. Growing older, my passion for the outdoors and my love of nature naturally started extending itself into photography. As I was blessed with the opportunity to travel around the world, I wanted to capture what I saw during those travels. Photography provided the means to do just that.
It was an unexpected surprise, but I discovered that others who saw my work were enjoying it as much as I was. That has simply helped to fuel my passion, and now through the technology of the internet I get to share that with you. I hope you enjoy your time here, stay as long as you like. Thanks, and God bless! ...Darin |

| Additional info: | Let me first say that I am not a professional photographer. I've never taken a class, and have rarely read more about taking pictures than what is in the manuals for my cameras. Honestly I'd be hard pressed to provide a detailed explanation of what aperture settings do or what an f-Stop is. But like my hiking and traveling, photography is a passion for me. And like any true passion, its one that has developed over time simply through practice and emulation of pictures / photographers I've admired. I don't try to apply my impressions to a picture, or assign a 'meaning' to it. I'm a strong believer in WYSIWIG. That is, What You See Is What You Get. To me, the most effective pictures are the ones that make me catch my breath when I see them, not because of the 'inspirations' of the artist. As you've probably noticed most of my pictures are of Landscapes - I think God paints the prettiest pictures and that's what I try to capture in my photographs. I'll let you be the judge of how each one moves you. When it comes to modifying pictures, I really try to limit it to the basics. I've seen some gorgeous pictures, only to discover they have been so digitally enhanced that little of the original picture actually remains. And while that is an art in itself, I personally feel that a picture should relate something real. So as you're looking through my galleries know that the colors or perspectives you see are the ones I see through my lens - and that you would also see if you were there with me. I get a lot of questions about my 'rig'. Many believe that you need the most expensive cameras or costly setup to take good pictures. That's simply not true. While having good quality gear helps, it doesn't make you a good photographer. I shoot with a Pentax ist DS (digital 6.1MP SLR). I have two lenses: a Tamron 28-300mm and a Sigma 10-20mm. I mount it to a light weight SLIK tripod, and only use two filters in my shots (polarizer and a graduated neutral density filter). I clean my shots in Adobe PhotoShop Elements and that cleaning is normally limited to cropping, contrast, adjusting levels and shadows. These are then uploaded here and thats what you see. Photography really doesn't need to be complicated to be good. Just get the basics, know how to use them, and practice. There really is no magic to it! |
